Teaching English, guided walks and school excursions
In addition to having worked very successfully at the CEIP Antonio del Valle Menendez Spanish school in Garachico, where he was helping the children to learn English, Steve Andrews has successfully led a guided nature walk for science classes from the British School Tenerife. He also inspired and took part in excursions to local beaches where the school children could see for themselves the amount of plastic that is causing a very serious problem in the oceans of the world.
His talent as a singer and guitarist proved very popular with the children at the school in Garachico because he was able to teach them songs such as Old MacDonald Had a Farm, which broadened their use of English vocabulary, and at the same time was fun. Steve’s own song Real Love and Communication was actually taught along with John Lennon’s Imagine and was performed live at the schools Peace Day event within weeks of him joining the school.
In 2010, he led a successful walk around the ponds of Erjos, accompanied by teachers and the Deputy Head of the British School Tenerife. The children were able to learn about ecology and see examples of food chains in action, as well as seeing different habitats and the flora and fauna they support.
Three excursions were organised in October, 2011, visiting the La Caleta beaches where surveys were conducted to see how much plastic could be found. Some of it was also collected for use in the art class. Feedback for these excursions has been excellent and more are planned.

To whom it may concern:
By present means, we recommend Steve Andrews, who has worked for four months (from the 8 January, 2009 to the 4 May of the same year) as Conversation Assistant at the School of Antonio del Valle Menéndez, in Garachico. His collaboration with the English specialist teacher has been of inestimable help, since he has shared his knowledge of the British culture, resulting in information for the children and, in addition, has shown a very important ability: that of music. Steve is a singer-songwriter and during the time that he has been in the school he has taught his own songs to the different children as well as traditional, ones accompanying them with his guitar, which has sparked the students’ enthusiasm. In addition, he has also helped the specialist teacher in one of the fundamental objectives of the project for Conversational Aid: improved knowledge of the language, mainly in phonetic aspects of colloquial language and, that of other forms that are very complicated to use.
Without anything more, and for the most opportune effects, signed in the present moment: Ana Goretty Romero Barrios, Specialist teacher of English at CEIP “Antonio del Valle Menéndez”
